Let’s be real—stepping in front of the camera isn’t always easy. As a photographer, you’d think I’d have this down to a science. But when I set out to do my Self Portrait Marathon, I didn’t fully realize how much of a journey it would be—emotionally, mentally, and, let’s face it, physically.
This was Session 10. The last time I took a self-portrait was April of last year—nine months ago. A lot has changed since then. I’ve gained weight. My confidence wavered. And honestly? I’d been avoiding this.

Stepping In Front of the Lens: The Hardest Part
When I coach my clients through their portrait sessions, I always remind them that the hardest step is just showing up. And let me tell you—it’s the same for me. Facing the lens felt like confronting my insecurities head-on.
But here’s what I know, both as a photographer and as someone who gets it: Your confidence doesn’t come from perfection. It comes from the courage to show up.
Why I Did It Anyway
I’ve committed to doing 30 self-portrait sessions. Why? Because I believe in the power of photography to transform the way we see ourselves. Session 10 wasn’t just about crossing a milestone—it was about giving myself a gift:
✨ A polished headshot to represent my brand in 2025.
✨ A moment to embrace where I am, right now.
✨ A reminder that confidence grows when we step out of our comfort zones.

What This Experience Taught Me About My Clients
Here’s the thing: I know I’m not alone in these feelings. I see it every time I work with someone who tells me, “I’m not photogenic” or “I just need to lose a few pounds first.” Trust me, I hear you. I AM you.
But here’s what I’ve learned, both for myself and for my clients:
💡 You don’t need to wait for the perfect time. Confidence isn’t about being ready; it’s about stepping up despite the doubts.
💡 Photography is about celebrating who you are today. Not 10 pounds ago, not in a few months—today.
💡 Your legacy deserves to be seen. Whether it’s for your career, your family, or just yourself, having images that reflect your strength and story is priceless.
How I Boosted My Confidence Through Session 10

Honestly? It wasn’t easy. I spent way too long picking an outfit, fussing over my hair, and wondering if I should just reschedule (again). But once I started, I found my rhythm. I laughed at myself, adjusted the tripod for the millionth time, and captured moments that felt authentic.
Was it perfect? Nope.
Was it worth it? Absolutely.
Taking this session was like hitting the reset button for 2025. It reminded me that confidence is a muscle—and sometimes, you need to work it to feel strong again.
